Firstly I will share how I prepare for my sessions, how I choose locations, lighting, and backgrounds for my images. I will share colour coordination, will talk through the “Rule of thirds”, framing, and cropping, posing and composition and depth of field.
My camera settings to achieve sharpness and also the depth of field.
Please ask any questions with regards to these topics, or if you have any specific subjects you would like to talk about.
Homework No 1: Preselect 10-15 images for our next online session and send them beforehand for our next meeting.

We will go through your pre-selected images (up to 10 -15), talking about your strengths and weaknesses, what can be improved, and how to do it. What needs to keep an eye on when shooting or editing. What best setting for portraits, also about posing and lighting. We will talk about composition and styling, background and depth of field.
We also will cover the natural light theory part, when shooting outdoors, when and how to use light to your own advantage.
Homework No 2: Take up to 3 photos of the person in full length. Have in mind the knowledge been shared in the previous lesson, keep an eye for composition, depth of field, storytelling, and light. Take 3 photos of close-up portrait (up to half body), keep an eye for composition, depth of field, storytelling, light, etc, and edit all these images.
Please send unedited together with edited images beforehand to be ready for our next meeting.

We will go through your images. Will check SOOC (straight from the camera) and after (with your editing). We will talk through how to improve the Raw file, any mistakes that are done when shooting and how to avoid them. What can be made to make these portraits stronger? We also will talk through editing techniques and what can be improved or changed to make portraits stronger. We will go through any questions that arise from previous sessions.
Homework No 3: Challenge yourself by working with what we have!
1. Take a few portraits in the full sun! Be creative, try various angles, use light or shadows to your own advantage (asked your subject to stand in shadow, or by contraries in a well-lit area), try to create shapes and shadows for more interesting portraits.
2. Take a few portraits at a random place, like by the bushes on the schoolyard, under the bridge, or single flower patch, etc… challenge yourself to see beauty in any corner or place, try various angles, maintain the depth of field, framing, and composition. Take the pull-out shot of the location.

We will talk through the images, what worked best, the use of the light/ equipment/ location that we have. What the challenges were?
I will introduce my editing techniques and the tools I use for my editing. I will use Photoshop and ACR (Camera Raw/ Bridge) programs for my workflow. I can work on your images or on mine if preferred.
Homework No 4: Edit 2 of your images with techniques you learn so far, one image from afar (full body) and one close-up portrait.

Looking through your homework, what can be improved, and what the challenges were. In this last live session, we will talk through the knowledge gathered, the challenges, and the weaknesses to work on.
We will work more on editing techniques or/and can cover any specific topic you feel need more knowledge or help with.
Your personal project: Prepare and create your own project. Choose the location, lighting, clothing/ props for your visual story.
*Review your last homework: After sending images from your personal project I will review it, I will send you an evaluation of your work with tips and a summary.
